Bipolar disorder, or manic depression as it used to be known, is typified by the two extremes that sufferer’s experience. One end of the scale comprises depression and torpor, hibernation state, or just an overall low. The other end, the exact opposite, involves a fair bit of animation and speed, an almost unhinged state, as in mania or crazed.
